I am a freelance architect, project manager, designer, writer and university tutor. I currently work as a sole practioner for my own practice, massingbird ltd. which I set up in April 2013.
I have worked in and studied architecture since leaving school many years ago, at notable practices including Shed KM and Bennetts Associates. I have worked on a variety of projects and competitions, such as New Street Square in the City of London, the Match Factory in Liverpool, The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon and Crossrail, and much smaller scale residential projects in and around London and the home counties. I also occasionally dance on the telly.
I graduated from the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow in 2000, having previously studied at Leeds Metropolitan University during my undergraduate years. I have spent time working in Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester and I settled in London 2001.
My work experience has been varied and rich, in scale, budget and complexity, and has taught me how to design, execute and project manage from the bottom up. From being the part 1 student who made the tea and folded the dye line prints, through my part two years where I learned clarity and thoroughness in my drawing output, to my post part two years where my design skills were tested and challenged by a seemingly never ending stream of other architects, and finally into my current position as lead designer, project manager and contract administrator.
The values of clarity, thoroughness, tenacity and simplicity have since proven to be the key to a smooth running project.
